About The Wanita Foundation

The Wanita Foundation empowers women in Indonesia with the dream to become an entrepreneur by providing access to capital, knowledge and business coaching. The foundation is started by Meeka Meedendorp, Marly Meedendorp and Joop Meedendorp in 2023.

Meeka: “During my journey through Asia in 2023, I have seen the poverty where women in other parts of the world have to live in with my own eyes.

When I was in Bali, I met Kadek. Kadek is married to her husband Ketut and has two children. Ten years ago, when her oldest son was ten years old, Kadek decided that she wanted a better future for her childen than she had. When she was a kid, she was raised in poverty.

Kadek wished for her sons to go to university in order to provide them with a better future. For the past ten years, she sacrificed her own life and lived in Malta to work as a massage therapist in a hotel. She saved all the money that she earned so she was able to send her kids to university.

For the past ten years, she therefore saw her kids only for six weeks a year. She wants to move back to Bali and start her own business, but misses the financial resources to do this.

This story broke my heart and made me realise that we are so privileged to be born in Europe. I wanted to help Kadek and other women that are born under other economical circumstances than I am.

It is very hard for Indonesian women to acquire a business loan because their credit score is too low.

And that is why I started The Wanita Foundation together with my parents. With this foundation, we raise capital for women in Indonesia that have the wish to start their own business.

We also make sure that these women are provided with the right knowledge to start a business. I help them with my experience: I have been an entrepreneur for the past seven years and I have worked as a business coach for the past 1,5 year.”
